Home school but not as you know it! Do you know your CBDs?
CBD or cannabidiol is a naturally occurring chemical found in most cannabis plants. Cannabis is a name for the flowering plants in the Cannabaceae family which consists of three primary species: Cannabis Sativa, Cannabis Indica, and Cannabis Ruderalis.
Hemp refers to the non-psychoactive varieties of Cannabis Sativa (which means they contain less than 0.3% of tetrahydrocannabinol, THC).
THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is the main psychoactive component of the cannabis plant and is what gives you a “high”.
In the UK, CBD is legal for use provided it contains less than 0.2 % THC. At The Mindful Muscle all our products are THC free.
So will CBD get you high? No no no. Not at all. Nope.
CBD on the tip of everyone’s tongues…. but why do we recommend you take CBD sublingually?
The word ‘sublingual’ refers to the large blood vessel found under your tongue. When liquids are placed there, they can cross the thin membrane and enter your bloodstream directly without having to go through the gastrointestinal tract where often the stomach breaks them down before they even make it to the liver for filtration and entering the blood stream. Avoiding the gastrointestinal tract also ensures the CBD is absorbed at a faster rate - meaning you will feel the benefits sooner than if you have to wait for your digestive system to break down the CBD.
Short answer - it’s a faster and more effective method of absorption!
How much you take and dosage is all part of your personal journey with CBD.
We recommend if you are starting out to take 5 drops 2 x a day = 25mg of CBD
Once you have started to adjust and get used to it - build up to our recommended serving suggestion of 10 drops 2 x per day = 50mg CBD
As per the FSA’s most recent advice do not exceed 70mg CBD in any 24 hour period.
We love to talk terpenes!
Terpenes are highly aromatic organic compounds that determine the smell of many plants and herbs, such as rosemary and lavender, as well as some animals.
Because terpenes produce vibrant smells, they form the basis of many essential oils and are an integral part of many alternative therapies, such as aromatherapy.
In addition to the important cannabinoids, hemp also contains a large number of terpenes, which produce the typical hemp smell.
But that’s not the only favourable effect of terpenes; they also support the positive function of cannabinoids. Scientists call the interaction of terpenes with cannabinoids the "entourage effect": the effect of the plant is greater than the sum of its parts.
Many researchers believe that cannabidiol tinctures containing not only CBD, but also a broad spectrum of natural terpenes, are more effective.
This is why our CBD extract is naturally flavoured with our signature blends of botanical terpenes.
Yes! Yes we do. All our broad spectrum CBD is tested after extraction and then once again by a third party laboratory once it is blended with our organic MCT oil and botanical terpene blends. Copies of the certificates of analysis for every batch (see bottom of carton for your batch number) are available upon request.
Let’s talk dosage. One of the most confusing elements of choosing the right CBD is often how much should I buy, how big should the bottle be, and how strong should the CBD content be. Brands often tend to bamboozle customers by selling different size bottles (15ml, 30ml and sometimes even 60ml), with varying strengths, and vast ranging prices leaving the customer unsure exactly how much benefit they will be getting for their money.
It’s important to know that often what looks like a completely different strength is actually identical! For example 3000mg strength CBD in a 60ml bottle is the same strength as 1500mg strength in a 30ml bottle and that is the same as 500mg in a 10ml bottle. But brands may pitch the 10ml bottle as a “starter strength” and the 60ml for a more intense CBD experience.
Having worked closely with our team of formulators we decided to launch with one strength. We believe 1500mg in a 30ml bottle is the sweet spot.
We recommend if you are used to CBD, 1ml (a full pipette) a day is perfect - some people like to split this up into half a pipette in the morning and half a pipette before bed. Or if you are using CBD to relax before sleep, then the full pipette at night might be best for you. This amount of CBD is very safe (in our CBD, one full pipette is 50mg, well below the max recommended daily allowance in the UK of 70mg) so you can play around with when is best for you to take it. It’s also good to note that as there is 30mls in the bottle and each full pipette is 1ml - dosing like this will mean you will use one bottle a month. Therefore a subscription to our CBD might be most economical for you.
If you are starting out with CBD and want to take things a little more cautiously, then halve that amount for the first 3 weeks while you feel what works most optimally for you, gradually building up to the 1ml a day.
And if you are a full CBD guru and know exactly what you are doing - then you should take what you like, when you like - being mindful of the guidelines of course!
